ATLANTA, March 13, 2019 (Newswire.com) - The University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Business has announced that T.E.N.’s CEO and President Marci McCarthy will join their board of advisors. For more than 20 years, McCarthy has made great strides in the business, entrepreneurial and technology realms, including founding T.E.N.’s flagship program - the Information Security Executive® of the Year (ISE®) Program Series and Awards.
Ashley Ferguson, president, Cyber Investigations & Intelligence Agency, and inaugural chairman, Culverhouse Cyber Executive Board of Advisors, said: “I am beyond excited to have Marci join me on the University of Alabama’s Culverhouse Cyber Executive Board of Advisors. When asked to be the inaugural chairman of the board and identify other key visionaries, Marci was one of the first people to come to my mind due to our shared passion for the education of our next generation of leaders and the future of cybersecurity. I knew she would be a true asset to the leadership of this board. We have a unique opportunity to revolutionize cybersecurity education and I feel blessed to have a dear friend and mentor like Marci join me and other key leaders as a part of the board’s inaugural leadership council.”
The Culverhouse Cyber Executive Board of Advisors’ purpose at The University of Alabama is to utilize the experiences and leadership from seasoned cyber industry executives, including those from information technology and security, to create a successful cyber program within the university. They will advise Culverhouse on the best courses, materials, teachers, degrees and more to utilize within their future teachings. The stated objectives of the board of advisors are to provide input to curriculum design to reflect current and future market realities; provide industry expertise and external support as needed to benefit the university and Culverhouse College of Business programs; promote the professional development of students and faculty; and develop student internship and scholarship opportunities.
On being chosen to be a part of the board of advisors, McCarthy said: “It’s an honor to be elected as a member of the board. The growth of the cyber industry in this modern era makes it a vital part of our community, both amongst the public and within our businesses. The passion and dedication to the cyber industry within the newly founded board and its members are inspiring and the board of advisors will ensure that The University of Alabama is capable of fostering a highly successful cyber program within its halls that will lead to a greater, more capable workforce in the future. I hope that my experiences as an entrepreneur and businesswoman within the cybersecurity industry will provide significant contributions to the board of advisors in their continuing endeavors to cultivate a powerful, educated student body.”
McCarthy has dedicated much of her time to encouraging the furthered cyber and information security education among future generations, particularly with women and minorities. For over a decade, McCarthy has proudly served on the board of directors for TechBridge, which is a nonprofit that works with nonprofits on the frontline of breaking the cycle of generational poverty and provides the technology tools and resources needed to advance their missions more effectively and sustainably. Furthermore, she was a member of the International Consortium of Minority Cybersecurity Professionals’ (ICMCP) Strategic Advisory Board since 2015, where McCarthy diligently facilitated the career advancement of existing professionals through mentoring and promoting public awareness of cybersecurity and other opportunities for minorities in the profession. As of 2019, she is now a member of their board of directors. In 2016, McCarthy was also welcomed as an honored member to the Atlanta Girls' School Board of Trustees to contribute her extensive knowledge and experience in cultivating young girls' minds and futures. In January of 2017, she was named the inaugural advisory council chair for the National Technology Security Coalition (NTSC), a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to driving the national dialogue on technology security in the United States.
