T.E.N., a technology and information security executive networking and relationship-marketing firm, honored finalists and winners Thursday evening, Aug. 16, at the 2018 ISE® West Executive Forum and Awards Gala at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco, California.

Chuck Markarian, CISO for PACCAR was selected as the Information Security Executive® of the Year Award winner for the ISE® West Region.

Chuck is the Chief Information Security Officer for PACCAR. In this role, he is accountable for all elements of Information Security globally, across all PACCAR divisions. This includes security consulting, investigations, litigation support, strategic planning, standards and security operations. Chuck has additional responsibilities which include Access Management, Disaster Recovery and Facilities. He joined PACCAR in 2005 as the Assistant Director, Information Security.

Chuck has two security certifications from ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association); CISM (Certified in Information Security Management) and CRISC (Certified in Risk and Information Systems Controls). Prior to joining PACCAR, he worked at BOEING and AT&T Wireless/Cingular in various IT and security roles. He has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Washington State University.

Chuck was also honored during the event as the 2018 ISE® West People’s Choice Award winner. This award represents the nominee who best exemplifies information security leadership as voted on by his peers in information security.

Aetna’s Aetna Entitlements, Identity, & Risk System (AEIRS) Project was selected as the ISE® West Project of the Year. The team at Aetna is using leading-edge technology that uses machine learning to provide early detection of anomalies in user behavior. The Aetna Entitlements, Identity, & Risk System (AEIRS), is a User and Entitlement Behavior Analytics (UEBA) program that evaluates millions of event records looking for anomalous or unusual behavior and alerts when detected. The analytics engine, AEIRS, determines and tracks normalized behavior for every Aetna user and then uses it to look for abnormal breaks from pattern, as well as rules-based criteria through behavior models. It also calculates a risk score for each individual user that has access to an Aetna system. The risk scores will change based on anomalous or unusual behavior detected by a model. The models and risk scores can then be used to trigger control changes in real-time.

“This year’s executive and project nominees were some of the most outstanding that our judges have ever seen,” said T.E.N. CEO and President Marci McCarthy. “Each of these executives and project teams exhibits the drive, passion, and dedication to Information Security for which the ISE® Awards stand and we are honored to have each and every one of them join the ranks of our distinguished ISE® Alumni.”
